In general, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is the preferred analytical technique for the analysis of metals and related contaminants at low levels. However, the analysis of samples containing higher levels of dissolved solids (typically above 0.5% w/v) is a known challenge in ICP-MS.
