How Seattle Public Utilities enhances their engineering records efficiency fivefold
Seattle Public Utilities relies heavily on their GIS environment for many aspects of their water and wastewater operations; one of these critical services is the management of their engineering drawings and documents. SPU needed to upgrade their legacy system for managing these critical records – which, although being fit-for-purpose when built in-house in the 90’s, was struggling to meet their current and future business requirements.
After an extensive market review and tender process, SPU chose to integrate the RedEye EDMS platform with the City’s GIS environment.
This case study will cover the underlying needs and requirements that Seattle Public Utilities took into this partnership, lessons learned from the project, and advice for other utilities out there in a similar position.

- 5 x faster processing speed for engineering drawing management
- 44% reduction in total files
- 83% increase in digital use across the organization.
