Light Scattering and Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) in Biopharma

Detection based on the principle of light scattering with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is a powerful technique to identify molar mass and size distributions of synthetic polymers such as polystyrene (PS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), and biopolymers. Especially the latter has received increased attention recently in the biopharmaceutical industry with applications including bioconjugates, proteins, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), mRNA1 , viruses (adeno-associated viruses, AAVs), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and liposomal nanoparticles (LNPs).
