Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous in the environment, originating from incomplete combustion of natural organic carbon (i.e., wood, coal, fossil fuels) or anthropogenic activities (i.e., vehicle emissions, waste incineration, industrial processes).
